TechFlow Media
Migrated to G7Cloud WordPress Hosting with ScaleShield edge caching.
Key Metrics
The Challenge
TechFlow Media operates a network of 12 high-traffic technology and lifestyle blogs. Previously hosted on WP Engine, they faced a recurring nightmare: whenever an article went viral, the resulting traffic spike would overwhelm their PHP workers. This led to 502 Bad Gateway errors, frustrating readers and costing them significant ad revenue.
Furthermore, their hosting bill was unpredictable. Usage-based overage charges for bandwidth and visits meant that a successful month of traffic resulted in a punitive hosting bill, destroying their profit margins. They needed a platform that could handle massive concurrent traffic without breaking the bank.
The G7Cloud Solution
G7Cloud migrated all 12 sites to our managed WordPress platform, placing them behind our ScaleShield caching and security layer. By configuring bespoke OpenResty caching rules, we ensured that 98% of their traffic was served directly from edge memory, completely bypassing PHP and the database.
We implemented a flat-rate pricing model based on compute resources rather than visits. Our infrastructure engineers also fine-tuned their database queries and implemented Redis object caching to handle the remaining 2% of dynamic requests efficiently.
"G7Cloud's caching technology is practically magic. We had an article hit the front page of Reddit and Hacker News simultaneously, and the server CPU didn't even flinch. Plus, knowing exactly what our bill will be every month has completely changed how we run our business."
The Results
Time to First Byte dropped from 850ms to under 300ms globally.
Zero downtime recorded during their largest viral event of the year.
Predictable flat-rate pricing eliminated overage anxiety.
ScaleShield successfully serves the vast majority of traffic from the edge.
